Many examples were built with a factory‑installed Disklavier player piano system, which is a Yamaha‑developed reproducing technology allowing the piano to record and play back performances via electronic sensors and solenoids—essentially combining an acoustic piano with self‑playing capabilities. MX‑80 models commonly measure around 42–43 inches in height and were produced both with and without the Disklavier system, with some made in Japan and others in Yamaha’s U.S. plant in Thomaston, Georgia.
